Planning

With regard to the Edinburgh Local Development Plan (ELDP) (adopted November 2016), the site is located within the ‘urban area’ where development is generally supported, subject to relevant policy considerations including those which relate to design, the impact of development upon the surrounding area and infrastructure, and developer contributions.
The site is also located within the Health and Safety Executive consultation zones for the MacFarlane Smith Chemical plant located on the opposite side of Westfield Road. The separation distance between the site and the plant is sufficient to allow most uses, however, potential developers will wish to examine the restrictions associated with the consultation zones.
