Planning

We understand the site is currently sui generis in its use classification. Due to the size and location we understand from Nottingham City Council that the subject property may have scope for change of use subject to planning consent.

There have been a number of planning applications on the site over the years. The planning reference numbers in regard to these applications are provided below and can be viewed on the Nottingham City Council planning portal.

Application ReferenceDescription
00/00751/PFUL3Construction of new 4-7storey building comprising 65 apartments
01/00845/PFUL3Conversion from first floor from offices to 2 flats
04/01815/PFUL3Construction of a new church centre / conference centre

The most recent planning application was in regards to the construction of a new church centre/ conference centre.

This application was granted permission in 2011. The scheme consisted of 32,000 sq ft of space with a 2,000 person auditorium at its core. The scheme spanned 7 storeys and was topped with a 90m high spire.

The site lies within Canning Circus Conservation Area. However, there is no guidance associated with this specific area designation.

There have been preliminary discussions with the Local Authority who have indicated that the site would be suitable for a number of city centre type uses i.e. offices, hotel, residential and student accommodation.
